To benefit from a good night's sleep, the choice of your bedding is important, but not only that. Choosing the right bedding set is also essential, particularly with regard to the material and dimensions.
What exactly is a bedding set?
Here is what a standard bedding set most often includes :
- a fitted sheet
- a duvet cover
- one or two pillowcases depending on whether it is a set for a single bed or a double bed
The most complete bedding sets also include a flat sheet , a bolster case and sometimes even a bedspread or bed skirt. There are also sets that only include a fitted sheet and a flat sheet, but no duvet cover. At Bonsoirs, you will find complete sets , made from natural, quality materials, which you can complete with a flat sheet if you wish.
What are the characteristics of the different elements of a sheet set?
The fitted sheet
The fitted sheet is designed to cover the mattress. To stay in place, it has elastic at all four corners (Bonsoirs fitted sheets have elastic that goes all the way around the mattress). It also includes 4 cups which perfectly fit the corners of the mattress and allow the sheet to be very smooth.
The dimensions of your fitted sheet should be exactly the same as those of your mattress. You should also pay attention to the cup height when purchasing. It must in fact correspond to the thickness of the latter + 5 cm, so that the sheet does not move.
The flat sheet
The flat sheet is the piece of bed linen that brings a refined touch to your set while optimizing your comfort. It also gives a perfect visual to your bed.
The dimensions of the flat sheet must be greater than those of the mattress to be able to be edged (approximately 90 cm more in width and length). If you are hesitating between two sizes, know that Bonsoirs bed linen pieces are accompanied by a size guide.
The duvet cover
The duvet cover is the element that wraps your duvet and is therefore particularly visible. It is generally made of a material that is a little thicker than that used for sheets.
You should choose a cover that is the same size as your comforter. As for the latter, it is recommended that it extends by approximately 40 cm on each side of the bed.
Pillowcases
Intended to protect pillows, the cases also serve to protect you from dust, bacteria and allergenic substances which tend to develop in them.
Choose your pillowcases based on their size, knowing that there are square and rectangular products. And if you want to give your cushions a plump appearance, opt for a slightly smaller size.
How to choose the right material for a bed set?
Your bed linen must be comfortable and you must therefore choose the material in which it is made with great care. The choice is vast and you will find ornaments made from natural materials as well as products made from synthetic materials. Here are the most commonly found ones:
- Cotton is the most common material. It has the advantage of being both comfortable and durable.
- Linen is a strong natural material and having a linen bedding set is particularly pleasant in summer, because it is a breathable material and promotes moisture wicking.
- Cotton percale is a material renowned for its quality. It is also very pleasant thanks to its soft and silky touch.
- Satin is very high quality and offers one side with a shiny finish and one side with a matte finish. It is also a very soft material.
- Silk instantly adds a luxurious and elegant feel to your bed.
- Cashmere is often blended with cotton, resulting in soft and warm bed linen, perfect during the winter season.
Bonsoirs has chosen to offer you bed linen made from high-quality natural materials such as cotton percale, cotton satin and washed linen. Each of our products is designed to provide you with maximum comfort. Our materials are therefore particularly aesthetic, soft to the touch and easy to maintain.
What color and pattern should you choose for a cover set?
The color(s) you choose will depend on the atmosphere you want to give to your room. For a plain linen bed set, you can for example opt for:
- White, beige or greige if you want an elegant and bright atmosphere.
- Yellow or an orange tone to add cheerfulness and give a sunny side to the room.
- Blue to make your room a soothing cocoon conducive to rest.
If you want patterned bed linen , they must match the style of decoration of the room. For example, a floral print will be perfect for a romantic atmosphere and foliage patterns will fit ideally into a bedroom with a natural and zen decor.
