Discover hugs and their effects on your health … and incidentally your sleep.

Every year, on January 21, “ Hug Day ” (understand “world hug day”) makes a comeback. For this occasion, discover hugs and their effects on your health … and incidentally your sleep.

A bit of science and psychology.

To explain to you as simply as possible, when you hug, you produce (without even knowing it) oxytocin… But yes, you know? The hormone of happiness ! Oxytocin is created by your brain and spreads throughout your body when someone hugs you (and vice versa) for at least 20 seconds.

But beyond this hormone, mirror neurons also act on your brain, but surely you are wondering what a mirror neuron is? It's very simple, you know that moment when you see your "dear and tender" yawn and a few seconds later it's your turn? Well, it's this mirror neuron that couldn't help but reproduce the action performed by another. As for hugs, when a person approaches you with their arms wide open to hug you, this neuron will, a bit like copying and pasting a formula in Excel, copy/paste the feeling of benevolence of the person who comes to cuddle you so that this feeling develops in you.

In terms of psychology, in your unconscious, the hug brings you back to your childhood, to this memory of your mom (or your dad, gentlemen too you have the right to hug) who takes you in his arms for you cuddle . At that moment, you felt safe, well it is thanks to this memory that you also feel safe in someone's arms.

And so, what are their effects?

But overall, you wonder what the real effects of hugs (and therefore oxytocin, mirror neurons and your childhood memory) are on your body. Well, hugs allow you to:
  • Boost Your Immune System : Sometimes hugging can make you feel like nothing can stop you anymore (and yes, too much oxytocin doesn't kill oxytocin), well your immune system feels unbeatable against infections too.
  • Reduce your stress : because when you are invaded by a feeling of happiness and bliss, your stress disappears as if by magic (or almost).
Don't forget that the quality of your sleep is dependent on several things, your health and your mental state, but what better way to sleep than having an immune system that thinks it's a super -heroes and a spirit that thinks it's a hippie?

And for singles?
