Curling up on the sofa in a soft blanket, there's nothing better when you want to take a little time for yourself! With a good book or watching a captivating series, it's your choice. But the blanket is also a perfect accessory to add a decorative touch to the living room, and even to protect the sofa. How do I make sure it stays in place? Bonsoirs shares with you his tips and 3 different methods.
1. Maintain the blanket with the sofa cushions: the simple and protective method
The first method that we share with you is quite classic. It involves completely unfolding the blanket on the sofa. In fact, two solutions are possible depending on the dimensions of your model. A large blanket allows you to cover the entire sofa. Place the high and low ends behind the back cushions and under the seat cushions . For good support, you need at least 15 cm of fabric under the seat and the same amount behind the backrest. Add a few accent cushions on the sofa, at the junction. They give an even cozier appearance and help to fix the blanket.
If you have a small blanket, place it on the seat and slide it partly under the cushions. Run your hands over it to remove all the wrinkles. You can also add a few cushions for an even more cozy welcome.
The blanket is a good way to protect your sofa, but to add elegance and comfort, don't choose the fabric at random! What we want is to create aesthetic protection while enjoying maximum softness.
We therefore opt for a soft material, with a nice texture and quality finishes. The cotton gauze throw is a very good choice, because it is a fabric that is both soft and airy. The embossed finishes of the cotton gauze accentuate the soft comfort of the blanket and give it an original and neat appearance.
A little advice on choosing the color. If you want to arrange your throw to protect the sofa, opt for a dark color. Navy and dark green work very well. You can also let yourself be seduced by an intense terracotta tone. It is a very trendy color when it comes to interior decoration, because it is warm and comforting.
2. Let the throw fall on an armrest of the sofa for a touch of chic
The throw that falls on an armrest is a chic way to highlight your sofa. This also allows you to have your blanket available when you want to wrap yourself up in it! To do this, choose a natural material that is soft to the touch and provides a nice drape.
The linen throw meets all these criteria very well. You have to choose it thick to benefit from good hold. From 250 gr/m2, we have the pleasure of having a very good quality blanket and above this weight, it is even high-end fabric! And that's exactly what we're looking for to obtain an elegant and chic look.
To place the throw on the armrest, you should not choose a piece that is too large. Then it's all about the art of folding. To create a long, beautiful drape, fold the blanket lengthwise to form a rectangle . Then place it in the center of the armrest. You can slide one end between the armrest and the exterior seat cushion for good support. Take a few steps back and admire the results! Have you opted for a plaid with a striped pattern? It's perfect. These will further refine the fallout.
Another solution is to open the blanket a little and let one of its ends fall onto an armrest. You thus obtain a sofa throw and your blanket is ready to use if you feel like snuggling up in it. The “plaid throw” method also works very well on an armchair.
3. Secure the blanket elegantly with discreet ties
A beautiful throw is always an excellent idea to hide the slightly worn covering of a sofa and/or give it a new design. There are special fasteners to attach it to the sofa.
There are twist pins which are found, in particular, in haberdashery. They are recognizable by their twisted tip and their transparent and decorative head. Once the blanket is installed on the sofa, it must be fixed at various points using these pins. In short, it's a bit like reupholstering your sofa (or your armchair). The disadvantage is that these fasteners can damage the sofa, especially if you change the blanket regularly. The advantage is that, once fixed, these pins no longer move. But, in any case, they cannot be used on a leather sofa.
Other fasteners allow you to attach a blanket, like safety pins for example. Choose them small and place them on the ends of the backrest, after forming a small fold . It's a bit like installing a cover. Be careful, however, that children do not injure themselves on a loose pin.
There are also special tensioners. They allow you to connect the upper end of the blanket to its short sides, to the right and left of the sofa. An alternative is to sew small strips onto the blanket and then tie them together.
How to attach a throw to a leather sofa?
All the methods we have discussed work well if the sofa has a fabric covering. But maintaining a throw on a leather sofa can be a challenge! The fabric slides more easily on the leather. However, there is no question of doing without the comfort of a good, cozy blanket.
In our opinion, the best way to attach a throw to a leather sofa is to hold it with the seat cushions. You have to place it as if you wanted to wrap them. This way, the covering is protected from stains or animal scratches. If you also want to protect the backrest, you can put a second blanket and hold it with ties.
On the seat of a leather sofa, a wool and cotton blanket will provide that extra warmth that is sometimes lacking in winter. We recommend choosing a model made with merino wool. First, because of its incredible softness, then for its thermoregulatory qualities. This wool provides all the comfort we are looking for in a blanket. And then, the wool and leather mix will accentuate the cozy atmosphere in your living room.
As for the colors, a cream (or ivory) tone for the throw will go perfectly with a brown, black or burgundy leather sofa. You can also choose a jacquard pattern to accentuate the cocooning and chic aspect of the blanket.
Have you fallen for a new blanket? Showcase it on your sofa! As you can see, there are many ways to place a throw tastefully. Don't hesitate to change your method to regularly give a new style to the decor of your living room.
