Composition of a bed set

The Bonsoirs bedding sets all consist of a fitted sheet , a duvet cover and two pillowcases .

What is a fitted sheet?

The fitted sheet is the most essential piece of the set. It's the one that covers the mattress. This sheet is distinguished from others by its cups at each angle. Each cap wraps a corner of the mattress. You must therefore choose a fitted sheet with suitable cups. Allow 5 cm more than the thickness of your mattress. For example :

  • for a 25 cm thick mattress, you need a 30 cm mattress pad;
  • for a 20 cm thick mattress, you need a 25 cm mattress pad.

What dimensions should I choose for a fitted sheet?

For the dimensions of the fitted sheet, you simply have to take into account the size of the bed. So for a 140x190 cm bed, you need a 140x190 cm fitted sheet. For a 160x200 cm bed, you need to choose a 160x200 cm fitted sheet.

What is a duvet cover?

The duvet cover is the sheet that covers the duvet. It is the key piece for the aesthetics of your bed linen, the one that must be chosen carefully. In fact, the duvet cover covers your entire bed.

What dimensions should I choose for a duvet cover?

Your duvet cover should be the same dimensions as your comforter. For a nice result, the duvet must be larger than the bed. This gives nice results on each side. So, if you want a drop of 30 cm on a 140x190 cm bed, you need a 200x200 cm duvet cover . For a drop of 50 cm on a 160x200 cm bed, choose a 260x240 cm duvet cover .

To help you in your choice, each piece of Bonsoirs bed linen is accompanied by a size guide.

Other pieces of bed linen

In a complete Bonsoirs set , there are also two pillowcases. The size guide allows you to choose the right dimensions, depending on your pillows. You just need to choose a pillowcase model that goes well with the duvet cover.

In addition to the bed set, you can choose a flat sheet and a bolster cover .

Fitted sheet, flat sheet and duvet cover: what are the differences?

The fitted sheet is an essential element of bedding since it covers the mattress. It is therefore a sheet that brings you maximum comfort. The flat sheet covers you while you sleep, just like the duvet cover. However, the use of these may be different.

Choosing a comfortable fitted sheet

The fitted sheet is in contact with your skin throughout your sleep, in winter and summer. It must therefore be made with a fabric that is pleasant to the skin. This fabric must be able to capture perspiration in summer and provide warmth in winter. Bonsoirs sheets are made with fabrics that provide this kind of comfort. These are cotton percale, cotton sateen and washed linen .

Each of these fabrics is made with natural materials (natural cotton or linen fibers), unlike polyester sheets, made with synthetic fibers.

The differences between these fabrics are in their appearance and feel. Indeed, a particular weave is necessary to design percale, satin or washed linen sheets.

What are the differences between the flat sheet and the duvet cover?

The main differences between these two pieces of bed linen lie in their use. You should first choose them in the same fabric, in order to benefit from the same advantages in terms of breathability.

  • In summer, the flat sheet and fitted sheet are sufficient for many sleepers. The flat sheet covers the skin lightly. Conversely, the duvet cover is difficult to bear in hot weather.
  • During winter, two solutions are possible. Sleepers can use only the fitted sheet and duvet cover. Those who are more cautious can, however, add a flat sheet, and even a blanket, in addition to the duvet cover.

You will have understood, the use of the duvet cover and the flat sheet is above all a question of season.

But it is also a question of decoration. Indeed, during the summer, if you prefer to do without a duvet cover, you must complete your bedding set with another decorative piece. You can opt for a pretty bedspread which is placed on the flat sheet during the day and is easily removed at bedtime.

To sum up

Choosing a bed set means opting for a duvet cover, a fitted sheet and pillowcases. It's the ideal set for winter. The dimensions of each room should correspond to the size of the bed, mattress and pillows. Just consult the Bonsoirs size guide to avoid making a mistake.

For optimal sleeping comfort, opt for sheets that allow great breathability: percale or cotton satin, washed linen.

In summer, it is more pleasant to sleep with a flat sheet, light and soft on the skin. So we put away the duvet cover. To maintain a pretty decor in the bedroom, cover the bed with a bedspread . It's as simple as Good evening!
