The most important element in choosing your bed set is the material it is made from. Opinions may differ, but three main fabrics come up most often: cotton, linen and satin.
You are therefore entitled to wonder about the best choice to make based on the advantages and disadvantages of each. Fortunately, Bonsoirs is here to guide you.
What sheet material to choose?
It is often difficult to decide between a linen or cotton sheet as both materials are excellent. Indeed, they are both very popular and have many common characteristics.
They are equal in terms of freshness, comfort, thickness, absorbency and longevity. Other parameters must therefore be taken into account. For example, linen is a little more eco-friendly, but cotton costs a lot less.
Indeed, it is often necessary to pay a larger sum of money to buy linen bed linen, but it is possible to find an inexpensive old linen sheet which will be refurbished once washed.
If you really can't decide, the mongrel is here to save you. It is a hybrid fabric between cotton and linen in equal percentage. It combines the properties of each and produces laundry that absorbs up to 10% of the total weight. In addition, it is hypoallergenic.
When it comes to choosing between a linen or cotton sateen sheet, the question mainly comes down to your budget and the season. We remind you that when we talk about “satin sheets”, we are talking about cotton satin. The latter is born from a special weaving process which requires fine threads in order to have this soft and smooth texture, like silk and percale . The ideal season for this bed linen is winter, as it keeps you perfectly warm and provides that cozy atmosphere, perfect for Netflix evenings.
If you want to combine two temperature-regulating materials, we advise you to opt for a flannel duvet cover.
Where to find linen or cotton sheets?
Now that your choice is made, all you have to do is find the linen or cotton sheet you need. Bonsoirs offers you all kinds of bed linen: pillowcases, bedspreads, linen duvet covers, etc.
To avoid fluffy linen sheets, we offer you the highest quality production. Despite this, prices remain very competitive and accessible to all budgets.
Our cotton sheets are made in France and our suppliers are chosen with care. By choosing our linen, you encourage national production and contribute to the promotion of employment in France.
In addition to linen and cotton, you can also opt for percale or satin .
How do I maintain my linen sheets?
Many people are afraid of natural linen sheets for fear of maintenance, which is often delicate.
However, thanks to the few tips that Bonsoirs will give you, you will have no trouble taking care of your bedding set.
The first wash
A linen sheet washed for the first time is quite fragile. You should go with a gentle cold wash, best by hand.
To prevent colors from bleeding, there is a trick which consists of soaking the sheet overnight or for several hours in white vinegar mixed with water to dilute it. This procedure also helps soften the fabric and gets rid of bad odors.
Of course, there are many alternatives to white vinegar, such as baking soda and lemon.
As soon as this is done, you can proceed with cleaning while respecting the rules mentioned above.
The next washes, ironing and drying
After you have successfully completed your first wash, the others will be much easier to complete. You can now wash your linen sheet in the machine without worrying about it becoming all bland and fluffy.
Be careful not to exceed a temperature of 40°C and a number of revolutions greater than 800. If the bed linen is really dirty, you can dare to run a short cycle at 60°C in order to sterilize it.
For drying, we advise you to do it in the open air, but the tumble dryer is not contraindicated. If your machine has an option for delicate laundry, you should not hesitate to turn it on.
We also have another little tip for you. Always remember to fold your sheets between washing and drying to avoid unsightly creases forming.
As for the final step of ironing, you can even do without it. Indeed, the specificity of linen is that it has this very charming slightly wrinkled appearance. Therefore, no one will judge you if your bedding set is a little ruffled.
If you still want to iron, you have to reverse the laundry and dampen it a little (otherwise it is almost impossible to tame it).
Your linen sheets are thus ready to experience new adventures or to be stored until their next use.
