The fitted sheet is a particularly important part of the bed set. For your comfort, it must adapt perfectly to your mattress, particularly with regard to the cup height. Explanations.

What is the cover of a fitted sheet?

The cap is the part that wraps the corners and the thickness of the mattress. Its height therefore corresponds to the depth of the corners of the sheet. Here are some tips on how to choose the size of a fitted sheet .

So that it wraps your mattress well, without creating creases, and holds in place, you must measure the height of the mattress and add at least 5 centimeters, so that there is enough return underneath.

So, for a queen size mattress with a thickness of 27 cm, you will need a sheet size of 160x200 cm and a cup height of approximately 32 cm. And for a king size mattress, 24 cm thick, you will choose a sheet measuring 180x200 cm and whose cap size is around 29 cm. Finally, for single mattresses 90x190 cm, which are sometimes less thick than products for two people, the size of the sheet may be 25 cm, which is suitable for mattresses having a thickness of 15 to 18 cm and very often encountered in children's rooms.

It is of course possible to choose an even greater cup depth so that the return under the mattress is greater. This will ensure optimal support for your fitted sheet. On the other hand, be aware that if the latter is not sufficient, your sheet risks coming undone as soon as you move. So, if you are unsure between two cup sizes, always choose the larger one.

Also pay attention to the finishes of the product. For a better hold, choose sheets with a bias. They will in fact be more solid and will hold even better on your mattress. The bias also allows the elastic of the sheet to be much more resistant to use as well as to washing in the machine. Your fitted sheets will therefore last longer! Finally, please note that Bonsoirs fitted sheets have elastic all around, which provides optimal support.

What are the standard cup heights?

Classic fitted sheets with standard dimensions in width and length are available on the market, with standard cup heights as well. Generally speaking, for classic mattresses, that is to say between 20 and 25 cm, the standard height is 30 cm, and for luxury mattresses (with a thickness greater than 25 cm), it is 35 or even 37 cm. Please note that Bonsoirs offers fitted sheets with a cup height of 40 cm under the name "maxi cup fitted sheet".

What material should you choose for a fitted sheet?

The fitted sheet is installed over the mattress protector and is in direct contact with the sleepers' skin. It is therefore advisable to choose products made from natural materials, which are much more pleasant than synthetic materials, such as polyester for example. So opt for cotton, which has great durability while being breathable and easy to maintain. Cotton percale is also very high quality and particularly soft to the touch. It also has the advantage of retaining freshness, which is very pleasant in summer.

If you want a fitted sheet that is stretchy and easy to put on, choose a cotton jersey product. Thanks to its flexible mesh, you will have no trouble positioning it, even on the thickest mattresses. This fabric also has the advantage of absorbing moisture, which is well suited to people who tend to sweat at night. Finally, it is very easy to wash since you just need to put it in the machine at 40°C.

Are you looking for easy-to-iron sheets? Choose cotton satin . This material actually has a slightly wrinkled finish and you will therefore not have to use your iron. It's the same thing for cotton jersey, which you can store directly in your closet after drying it in the open air or putting it in the dryer.

Finally, washed linen is very appreciated for its soft touch which gives it incomparable comfort. It is, moreover, a canvas which has the advantage of retaining heat during the winter and remaining cool when it is hot.

When you choose your bed linen, you will also need to pay attention to conformity certifications. There are two main ones:

  • The Standard 100 OEKO-TEX certification which labels products free of substances harmful to health and the environment.
  • GOTS certification which distinguishes organic products. It thus certifies that the fitted sheet was made from materials from organic crops. This label also indicates that the processing sector meets current environmental standards.

Bonsoirs sheets are made from natural and comfortable materials. These are cotton percale , cotton sateen and washed linen .

Choose the color of your fitted sheet carefully

The choice of color for your fitted sheet will depend above all on your tastes. You can therefore choose to play on tone on tone with your duvet cover and your pillowcases . You can also mismatch the colors and create a particularly trendy mix and match.

To get a good night's sleep, we often recommend choosing blue, which has soothing properties. White is also a shade appreciated for its purity, and light tones, such as pale pink, light gray or beige, invite relaxation. On the other hand, avoid overly aggressive colors (black, purple, etc.) which do not promote falling asleep or quality sleep.
