Night sweating is much more common than it seems and our pillows are the first victims! Bad odors, halos, graying of pillowcases, our night cushions are not spared... It's time to equip your bedding with an anti-perspiration pillow worthy of the name! But how to choose it? Follow our advice.
Favor natural materials
For the envelope of your cushion
Before talking about the filling of your pillow, we must address the case of the cover of your anti-sweat pillow, because this criterion is too often neglected. Once the filling has been chosen, we tend to move on to purchasing, although the material of the cover that covers your cushion is also very important. How to make the right choice ? To avoid making a mistake, simply follow the three tips below:
- Avoid envelopes made of synthetic coatings such as polyester, acrylic or viscose. These fabrics, designed using petrochemical processes, certainly have very interesting properties, but promote perspiration.
- By opting for a 100% cotton cover, a pure cotton cover, you will have a well-ventilated pillow that will allow you to sleep comfortably and coolly.
- Certain fabrics have been specially patented to regulate nighttime sweating of the head: Tencel®, Coolmax®, Thermobest®… All of these materials help sleepers who suffer from perspiration to reduce their night sweats and rest better. Each has its own specificity. Coolmax® fabric, for example, dries extremely quickly. Tencel® brand Lyocell fiber, made from wood pulp, perfectly absorbs body moisture.
The advantage of natural materials for filling
Did you know that the cushion you use at night can aggravate your sweating problem, while certain pillows will actually reduce your problems with night sweats, such as pillows with natural fillings . Made from natural fibers, these pillows have unbeatable breathable properties. They prevent moisture and heat from building up and remaining inside the cushion.
Natural latex, down, wool, bamboo, buckwheat, spelt, several fillings exist for your anti-perspiration pillow :
- The latex anti-sweat pillow is particularly interesting because it combines the advantages of the memory foam pillow and the anti-sweat pillow. Latex comes from rubber tree sap, a particularly elastic natural material which also promotes good interior ventilation.
- No need to dwell on the benefits of down pillows , light and airy like no other. They provide excellent ventilation and remain lofty over time.
- In the field of bedding, wool is less known and yet its advantages are numerous: good moisture evacuation, thermal regulation, optimal ventilation of the entire interior of your cushion.
- The bamboo anti-sweat pillow is the ultimate anti-odor pillow . Contrary to popular belief, bamboo is a soft material and even more breathable and absorbent than cotton. Ideal for your head!
- Finally, we present to you two types of pillows with natural and “cereal” fillings: the buckwheat pillow and its spelled counterpart. These fillings allow air to circulate very easily inside the envelope and provide very great ventilation throughout the cushion. With buckwheat husks or spelled husks you will have no problem with moisture stagnating in your pillow.
And why not the cooling pillow?
Cooling pillows are memory foam pillows with added gel on one side. This gel has the power to absorb and then dissipate heat. In summer, this type of cushion can even be cooled by a trip to the refrigerator to ensure optimal comfort so you can get a good night's sleep. The other advantage of this ergonomic pillow is that it adapts personally to your head, is good for your back and does not deform over time.
However, it does have one small drawback: the gel may surprise some sleepers who are sensitive to cool coatings. But with a little time to adapt, you won't be able to do without it!
Protect your pillow...
With an anti-sweat pillow protector
The pillow protector is absolutely essential, especially when you sweat. Like a bed pad, protecting your night cushion is a rule that you should not deviate from. This protection will prevent stains, marks and bad odors on your night cushion. For optimal use of your pillow protector, get into the habit of washing it as often as your pillowcase and at at least 60°C.
With an anti-sweat pillowcase
The phenomenon of sweating is reduced when you opt for a room temperature of 18° C and sleep on cotton. To sleep, we cannot recommend enough good quality cotton pajamas and sheets. The same goes for your pillowcases which are placed on your pillow protectors. To avoid perspiration, your pillowcase must therefore be made with a thermoregulatory material. The pillow protector and the case are two essential protections against the inconveniences of night sweating. The thickness of your pillow must also be chosen carefully: there are as many thicknesses of pillows as there are body types. As a general rule, a full-bodied person sleeping on their side should opt for a thick, or even very thick, cushion, while a smaller sleeper will choose a pillow of medium thickness. If you sleep on your back or stomach, choose a thin pillow. But the most important thing is that you do according to your taste ;-)
