Some scientists believe that the position in which we sleep can reveal our personality, so find out what yours is!
Between us… who has never had a laugh watching a loved one sleep in an impossible position, sometimes to the point of immortalizing it with a small photo?
If we all have our favorite position to get a good night's sleep, this one is not meaningless. Indeed, the night (or nap time for fans) is the only real time when you allow yourself to let go of control and completely relax, snuggled up in your duvet cover .
Our unconscious can then show through, this is how some scientists think that the position in which we sleep can reveal our personality.
While this won't tell you if your mate is in fact a serial killer, you may be surprised by some information.
Here is a selection of the 6 most common positions analyzed by Chris Idzikowski, researcher and author of the book “Learning to Sleep”.
1. The fetal position
According to Professor Idzikowski's study, the fetal position is the most frequently used (with nearly 40% of people). Lying on your side with your knees close to your body and your back slightly bent, the “fetal position” takes its name from the position of the baby in its mother's womb. People sleeping in this position may look "strict" on the outside but are actually teddy bears on the inside. If they can be shy at first, they tend to open up quite quickly once the first contact is over.
2. The log
Lie on your side with your arms along your body. With nearly 15% of people in this position, there's every reason to believe that “sleeping like a log” should be comfortable (although it doesn't look like it). They are extremely social and warm individuals, who enjoy being part of a group. They tend to trust others easily which sometimes makes them naive.
3. The suitor
Lying on your side with your arms outstretched in front of you as if you were trying to grab something, this position is quite common. This position most often reveals a rather complex character. If these people are most of the time friendly and open, they nevertheless have a cynical side that pushes them to be wary of others. While it may be difficult for them to make a decision, it is very difficult to get them to change their minds once it has been made.
4. The Soldier
Lying on your back, arms along your body, the position of the soldier (attention!) is aptly named. Despite this stern air, this position is often attributed to calm and reserved people, who tend to have a high level of requirement.
5. Free fall
Lie on your stomach with your arms around the pillow and your head turned to one side. This position gives the air of a parachutist in full free fall to the person who adopts it. These people are mostly very sociable and sometimes a little cheeky, which actually hides a real sensitivity and a certain fragility in the face of criticism.
6. Starfish
Lying on their backs, arms around the pillow, our starfish friends tend to stretch out comfortably on the bed (even if it means taking up all the space). The starfish remains the least common position, however, with only 5% of people sleeping this way. All the more reason to cherish them as they make great friends, always ready to listen and offer help to others, although they generally don't like to be the center of attention.
Oh yes of course… all these positions are easily achievable on the Bonsoirs bed linen ! :)
