Choosing the right size for a duvet is important, but it's not always easy. Find all the advice to find the right duvet size and enjoy optimal comfort, night after night.

What are the rules to follow?

We particularly appreciate when our duvet falls largely on each side of our bed. Several elements must therefore be taken into account to choose a duvet with the right dimensions and enjoy this elegant drop:

  • The size of the bed (single bed or double bed)

  • Your desires regarding fallout (or dropout) on each side

  • The morphology of sleepers

  • Whether or not you fidget during your sleep

  • Your habits: do you like to wrap yourself in the duvet or not?

Be aware that your duvet should not be too small, so that you do not risk being cold during the night, nor too large, so as not to touch the ground, which would not be very hygienic. We generally recommend a drop of 40 to 50 cm on each side of the bed. For example, for a 140 x 190 cm bed, you should choose a 220 x 240 cm duvet and for a 200 x 200 cm bed, you can opt for a product measuring 240 x 280 cm.

Your body type is also important. Indeed, the fall of your duvet will have to be more important if you are of strong build, this in order to prevent the cold air from rushing by the sides. Also choose a larger duvet if you or your partner tend to move a lot during the night. And if you like to wrap yourself in your bed linen to be warm.

What dimensions for a single bed?

Single beds are generally 190 cm long and 90, 100 or 110 cm wide. They are widely used in children's rooms or to fit out small spaces. For these dimensions, a duvet of 140 × 200 cm will be perfectly suitable. The advantage is also that you will find many duvet covers for this size, which is practical for a child's bed, as they tend to get dirty more easily.

What dimensions for a double bed?

There are several sizes of double beds:

  • The 140 x 190 or 140 x 200 cm bed is the most classic and the most suitable duvet size is 220 × 240 cm. You will thus have beautiful results and will be able to turn around without risking finding yourself without anything on you.

  • The queen size bed (160 x 200 cm) will need a larger duvet. It is therefore advisable to opt for a model of size 240 × 260 cm which will perfectly cover your bed and offer you optimal comfort. If you like to bundle up, you can also choose the dimension 240 × 280 cm.

  • Finally, for a king size bed (180 x 200 cm), opt for a 240 x 280 cm duvet which will give you enough width to keep you warm even if you move during your sleep.

Bonsoirs provides you with duvets of all these dimensions. Our products are of high quality and are available for all seasons.

What type of duvet to choose?

Now that you know more about the size of your duvet, you will need to choose its type. This will of course depend on your level of chilliness and the season. There are indeed light duvets ideal for the summer, warmer models suitable for the cold season, as well as all-season products. Your choice will also depend on the region where you live and the quality of insulation in your home.

You will also have the choice between natural products and synthetic products. Made of down or feathers, natural duvets are very popular for their lightness and comfort. Their filling is indeed warm and insulating, and it has the advantage of offering natural thermoregulation, i.e. it will keep you warm in winter and bring you coolness in summer. This type of product also has the advantage of having a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. As to synthetic duvets , they are particularly easy to maintain since they can easily be washed in the washing machine. To prevent the fibers from bunching together, we still advise you to place 2 to 3 tennis balls in the drum. As for drying, it will be done in the open air in just a few hours.

And the duvet cover?

When you choose your duvet cover, you tend to believe that it may shrink over the washes. This is often the case for sheets, pillowcases and bolsters. However, there is no risk since the bed linen is precisely designed to keep its initial dimensions. The bed linen offered by Bonsoirs is made from quality materials such as cotton percale, washed linen or even cotton gauze. These are materials that do not shrink and are particularly durable over time. To choose a suitable duvet cover , you just need to make sure that it is exactly the same size as your duvet. For example, for a 240 x 260 cm double duvet, you will need a cover also measuring 240 x 260 cm. This way it will be easy to put on and take off and protect your duvet for a long time.

The duvet cover will also allow you to bring a decorative note to your bedroom. You will indeed have a wide choice of colors and prints and can easily find a model that goes perfectly with the rest of your decoration and your desires of the moment.
