Sweating a lot during the night can have a detrimental impact on the quality of sleep. Fortunately, there are effective measures to reduce this problem as well as suitable duvets and bed linen. We tell you which duvet to choose so as not to sweat .
What are the different models of thermoregulated duvets?
Sweating at night is a natural process. We thus lose 500 ml to 1 l of water on average each night. However, some people may sweat significantly more and expel several liters of water while they sleep. This is why they are often looking for solutions to sleep dry.
The anti-sweat duvet is designed to maintain a good temperature while avoiding the feeling of humidity. Classic duvets are in fact equipped with a synthetic material filling most of the time. They are therefore not very breathable and sleepers are often too hot, regardless of the thickness of the product and the season. They then experience night sweats and are bothered by excessive temperature which can sometimes make them feel like they are suffocating. All of this of course affects the quality of their sleep and prevents them from waking up refreshed and refreshed.
The anti-sweat duvet can be made from different materials:
- Goose or duck down: down is the ideal filling for very cold winters. To avoid sweating, however, the weight of the duvet must be less than 300 g/m². Indeed, with a heavier weight, the duvet is too heavy and this tends to make you sweat. We therefore recommend - freshly - our natural light duvet !
- Silk has the advantage of generating a feeling of freshness when it is hot and retaining heat in winter. It is also an absorbent material that effectively wicks away moisture.
- Wool allows the sleeper to be immediately warm in winter. Its breathable properties also help limit perspiration. There are even very lightweight wool duvets that are perfect for spring and summer.
- Bamboo fiber is highly valued for its ability to wick away moisture, but it falls apart quite quickly.
- Hollow silicone is a synthetic material that incorporates hollows that distribute moisture across the entire surface of the duvet before evacuating it. It is also very light and quite inexpensive.
- The polyester fiber is ultra-light and gives the duvet a lofty effect. It is therefore comfortable and allows the sleeper not to sweat in any season.
At Bonsoirs, we offer duvets that are made of duck down or recycled polyester fibers like our synthetic duvet . They are breathable, durable and maintain their loft for a long time. Their cotton cover also has a very tight weave, which gives them natural properties. This will help you avoid allergies.
Choose your anti-sweat duvet based on the temperature of the room
If the temperature in your room does not exceed 18°C, it is advisable to opt for a warm duvet. For a temperature between 18 and 22°C, prefer a temperate duvet. Finally, for a temperature above 22°C, you will need a light duvet.
What bed linen should you choose in case of excessive sweating?
If you tend to sweat a lot at night, choose sheets made from natural materials, such as cotton or linen. These materials are in fact perfect when temperatures rise, because they allow air to circulate. You can bet on the sheets offered by Bonsoirs which are made in cotton percale, cotton satin or washed linen. They are of high quality and will allow you to sleep in optimal comfort conditions.
Which mattress to choose when you sweat a lot?
The most suitable mattresses are natural latex mattresses or pocket spring mattresses which allow good ventilation.
Which mattress pad to avoid sweating?
Whatever mattress you choose, don't hesitate to equip it with a mattress pad. This will allow you to effectively protect it from odors, stains, microbes and bacteria and thus extend its lifespan. Mattress protectors generally consist of two layers: the first is against the mattress and is waterproof, and the second is in contact with the sleeper and has absorbent properties.
And what pillow?
As for the pillow , prefer a product with natural filling (feather and down, for example). It will have the advantage of absorbing moisture and leaving you dry whatever the weather conditions. There are also products that consist of a blend of cotton and polyester fibers. They capture moisture and allow you to sleep more comfortably. Some even have an envelope which reduces the risk of allergies.
Maintain your bed linen properly
It is important to properly maintain your sheets, mattress protector, pillowcases, duvet and pillow, especially if you sweat a lot at night. This will prevent moisture from stagnating in the fabric and filling. So put them in the washing machine very regularly, approximately every 15 days for the bed set and the mattress pad and at least twice a year for the duvet and pillow.
What causes night sweating?
Sweating at night can have several causes. This may be due to too high a temperature in the bedroom, too much accumulation of blankets or duvets, hormonal imbalance (pregnancy, menopause, etc.), stress or certain illnesses (viral illnesses, hyperthyroidism, cancer...). To remedy the problem, try limiting stimulants like coffee and alcohol before bed and take a lukewarm shower. Also note that there are homeopathic solutions that can reduce night sweating, limit stress or both.
