Everyone enjoys wrapping themselves in a soft bathrobe after getting out of the bath or shower. This characteristic depends on the manufacturing material, but also on the weight. Find out what weight to choose for a good bathrobe .

What are the most common materials for bathrobes?

Bath linen is traditionally made of cotton, a material which has the advantage of being both soft and absorbent. It comes in several forms:

  • Cotton terry is very suitable for daily use. It has a high absorbency, dries quickly and provides a feeling of immediate comfort.
  • Carded cotton is made of short fibers and has a matte appearance. It is quite cheap.
  • Combed cotton, on the other hand, has long fibers and is softer.
  • Cotton velvet is made up of two sides: the top side with short loops which is soft, shiny, but not very absorbent and the bottom side which has the characteristics of classic terry cloth.
  • The honeycomb weave is very aesthetic thanks to its embossed appearance. It is also light, comfortable and dries very quickly.
  • Organic cotton is produced without fertilizers or chemicals. It is bleached without chlorine and is particularly soft and fluffy.
  • Micro-cotton is made from a very fine fiber. This fineness allows it to be very absorbent and dry quickly.

Other materials such as linen, modal or bamboo viscose are widely used for the manufacture of bath linen. Linen is often mixed with cotton while being anti-allergic. Modal is a natural material obtained from beech and retains its qualities (softness, comfort and absorption) over time. Finally, bamboo viscose is soft, silky and absorbs up to 4 times more moisture than cotton.

How to choose the right weight?

The grammage corresponds to the weight of the fabric per m². So, the higher it is, the more comfortable, soft and absorbent your towels and bath sheets will be. As for bathrobes, it is generally between 250 and 550 g/m². In fact, it is preferable that it is not too large so that the garment remains light and manageable.

The weight of the bathrobe also differs depending on its manufacturing material. It will therefore be higher for cotton terry and velvet products than for a linen or honeycomb bathrobe, for example.

At Bonsoirs, we offer you quality, high-weight cotton bathrobes . You will have the choice between a cotton terry of 550 g/m² for plain products and 500 b/m² for striped products and a honeycomb weave of 375 g/m². If you prefer a dressing gown, know that you can order a particularly soft one, made from cotton percale and perfect for your cocooning moments.

And the shape?

Once you have determined the right weight for your bathrobe , you will need to choose its shape. This is indeed another important criterion. The most common forms are:

  • the hooded bathrobe , perfect for keeping your head warm
  • the shawl collar bathrobe which has a well-enveloping flap
  • the kimono bathrobe which is suitable for both men and women and is very elegant
  • the poncho bathrobe that slips over your head and that children love

The Bonsoirs brand mainly offers kimono bathrobes (those in honeycomb) and bathrobes with shawl collars (those in cotton terry). They also have a sewn belt (you won't lose it again) and two very practical patch pockets.
