You have just renewed all your sheets, your closet is now full of Good evenings , and you need advice for their maintenance? Then this article is made for you ;)
Should you wash your new sheets before use?
What question ! Of course you have to wash them, the cotton that makes up your sheets will have undergone many modifications, it will have been transformed into threads, then woven and finally assembled to make your duvet cover . In short, your sheets will have undergone many manipulations, so it is better to wash them.
FYI, long fiber cotton has the particularity of softening over time. Your Bonsoirs sheets will obtain their optimal level of softness and comfort after a few washes and you won't be able to do without them, we promise!
How often for washing sheets?
On average, we spend 8 hours in our bed each day during which we sweat. Outside, it is this same perspiration and the heat that you give off at night while sleeping that allow bacteria to proliferate in your sheets.
So in terms of frequency, already, you have to wash them more frequently in summer than in winter, but it also depends on whether you go to bed clean or not.
Rather team morning shower or evening shower? Those who are on the evening shower team can leave their sheets in place longer.
We will say that on average, for the people in the morning shower team, in summer you are advised to change your sheets every week, while in winter you can change them every week and a half. For the evening shower team, you can easily use your sheets for another half week.
So we all know that changing your duvet cover can be complicated, but follow our advice and it will be much easier.
How much to wash the sheets?
You never know at what temperature to wash your sheets? We advise you to wash at 40° because it is for us the perfect temperature between “too cold” to keep beautiful bed linen and “too hot” to kill bacteria as much as possible. Let's also not forget that washing at 40° consumes less energy than washing at 90°.
As for the program, we advise you to select the right program and to only make a machine with sheets of the same color to prevent them from bleeding. At Bonsoirs, we offer sheets in cotton Percale as well as cotton Sateen, the right washing program is therefore the one dedicated to cotton ;)
And what about drying?
We advise you to favor the small clothesline which is located at the end of the garden (or on the terrace) to dry your sheets. For those who don't have a washing line or don't live in the part of France that can get a lot of sun, you can use a drying rack.
Bonsoirs sheets are also suitable for the dryer. On the other hand, be careful, do not use too high temperatures. These could damage the cotton fibers and therefore the resistance of your sheets. For a better, less creased result, we advise you to stop your drying cycle 10 minutes before the end and to extend your Bonsoirs on a dryer.
Our tips for making stains disappear
Whatever the stain, the most important thing is to react as quickly as possible before it soaks too much into the fibers of your sheets. There are several types of tasks that you can tackle with the same tricks. The stains that are a little different are the stains due to the deposit of excess oil from your skin on your beautiful sheets.
Do you have a stain on your sheet? Start by spraying the stain(s) with stain remover, follow the instructions, then wash. The stains are still not gone or you have traces of sebum? To clean these stains, take a Marseille soap, and as for solution 2, we go to the elbow grease to lather with cold water and let stand overnight in the water soapy, fingers crossed that it works. For information, on these traces left by your skin, they are more visible on dark or colored sheets, so prefer light sheets like our Juste Le Blanc range.
Your duvets and pillows also have the right to a wash
You never think about it, we know, yet your duvets and pillows must also be washed in order to remove all the mites and all the germs that settle there over the nights. This “spring cleaning” of your bedding should be done more or less often depending on their material.
If they are made from synthetic materials, it is advisable to wash them approximately every two months. If they are down, it is advisable to wash them twice a year at 30° or 40°.
Well, we grant you, it's not very practical (and yes, it takes much longer to dry than a simple duvet cover), but it is necessary if you want to sleep in a clean bed, especially if you have an allergy to dust mites.
Now you have all the keys in hand to be able to sleep in cleaner sheets than ever.
