The duvet is a bedding accessory that provides comfort. It can become a kind of comforting blanket for little ones! It is also more practical than a blanket to quickly make a child's bed. At Bonsoirs, we give you all our advice for choosing the right size duvet for a child and thus obtaining a result that is as aesthetic as it is cozy.
Dimensions of mattresses for children's beds
The size of a child's duvet is chosen according to the size of the bed. On the bedding market, three sizes of children's beds stand out. A little presentation is necessary to find the perfect size.
-
First there are baby beds, those with bars in particular. They accommodate mattresses of 60 x 120 cm. These beds are often expandable: for example, the bars can be removed when the child grows up. So, they can be used until the age of 2 to 3 years.
-
During early childhood, it is common to choose a bed with a 70 x 140 cm mattress. It's not yet a big bed, but these dimensions are very suitable for children who grow very quickly.
-
From the age of 8, children may need a larger bed, which they can keep until adolescence and even beyond. The size of this bed is 90 x 190 cm.
Duvet sizes for children
For a duvet to fall well on each side of the bed, you must choose a model a little larger than the size of the mattress. The duvet must also be appropriate for the age of your child.
The child's duvet is not for two years
Before focusing more specifically on children's duvets, it should be noted that they are strongly not recommended for babies under two years old. There is indeed a strong risk of suffocation when placing a duvet in a baby's crib.
For newborns, and up to the age of two, it is recommended to use a sleeping bag (also called a sleeping bag) to keep them warm.
The right duvet for a 60 x 120 cm bed
If the size of the child's bed is 60 x 120 cm, it is recommended to choose a duvet measuring 80 x 120 cm . It's a small comforter, but it's large enough to allow for some spillover on either side of the bed. The sleeping surface is completely covered, particularly at the level of the child's feet.
Duvet for a child's bed 70 x 140 cm
The 100 x 140 cm children's duvet is recommended for a 70 x 140 cm bed. The fallout is about fifteen centimeters on each side of the bed, for an aesthetic result. The child can pull his duvet up to his neck and snuggle in it.
A children's duvet for a 90 x 190 cm bed
For a single bed of 90 x 190 cm, you can choose a standard size duvet 140 x 200 cm . It's a large duvet that your child can wrap up in and fall asleep warm. The fallout is approximately 20 cm.
What filling to choose for a child's duvet?
Whatever the size of the duvet, at Bonsoirs, we offer the same weight for our light natural duvet . Our special cold season natural duvet has a heavier weight, just like our synthetic fiber duvet. All our duvets can fit on a child's bed measuring 90 x 190 cm. Are you hesitating between natural filling and synthetic filling? Here is some information to help you make a choice.
Natural materials
Our natural filling is composed of down and feathers. It is therefore thermoregulatory and suitable for children who tend to sweat during their sleep. Our natural duvets have a weight of 135 g/m2 for the light model and 220 g/m2 for the winter model.
These duvets can be machine washed and can also be tumble dried on a gentle cycle. They may take time to dry, we recommend washing during the hottest days.
Down-like synthetic fibers
A synthetic duvet can be filled with different materials. At Bonsoirs, we have chosen fibers from recycled plastic bottles. They have the advantage of being similar to down, which allows for good thermoregulation.
Our synthetic duvets have a weight of 350 g/m2 and are hypoallergenic. They can be machine washed and tumble dried. They dry quickly.
Whatever the filling, note that all our duvets are guaranteed to be free of harmful substances (OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100).
